Preparation:

Prepare the Bread: Cut the bread loaf in half horizontally to create top and bottom halves.
Make the Olive Oil Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, oregano, and basil.
Brush the Bread: Generously brush the olive oil mixture on both cut sides of the bread.
Layer the Ingredients: On the bottom half of the bread, layer the ingredients in this order: turkey ham, beef salami, mortadella, provolone, and mozzarella.
Add Olive Salad and Peppers: Spread the olive salad evenly over the cheese layer. If using, add pepperoncini peppers on top.
Assemble the Sandwich: Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich and press down gently.
Wrap and Press: Wrap the entire sandwich tightly in plastic wrap. Place a heavy weight (like a cast-iron skillet) on top of the wrapped sandwich and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. This helps compress the sandwich and allows flavors to meld.
Serve: Before serving, unwrap the sandwich and cut it into wedges.
Variations:

Vegetarian Muffulettas: Substitute the meats with roasted vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, and eggplant. Add slices of fresh mozzarella and a generous amount of olive salad for flavor.
Spicy Muffuletta: Include spicy meats like chorizo or add sliced jalapeños to the layers. You can also use pepper jack cheese for an extra kick.
Italian Deli Muffuletta: Use a variety of Italian deli meats such as capicola, pancetta, and prosciutto. Pair them with sharp provolone and a spicy olive salad.
Seafood Muffuletta: Incorporate seafood like shrimp or crab meat mixed with a zesty seafood salad in place of the meats. This gives a fresh twist to the traditional recipe.
Breakfast Muffuletta: Layer scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and cheddar cheese on the bottom half of the bread. Top it with a light spread of olive salad for a breakfast version.
